CREA Legislative Activities

The CREA staff maintains a legislative program for its member cooperatives, both at the state and national levels. From time to time, CREA also becomes involved in issues before the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. CREA works closely with its member distribution cooperatives, its member power supplies and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in the implementation of a complete legislative agenda.

Job Posting: Government Relations Specialist

A government relations specialist is being sought by the Colorado Rural Electric Association.

This position will report to the director of government relations. CREA’s legislative department develops and implements formal government relations plans and activities promoting, supporting and influencing legislative, regulatory and administrative matters favorable to CREA members. This position provides support to the department by planning and coordinating events, soliciting and tracking membership in the CARE political action committee and drafting summaries of legislative bills and messages for various publications.

A bachelor degree in communications, journalism, political science, public policy, economics, related field, or four years of legislative/political experience is required.

This position also requires excellent oral and written communication skills utilizing a variety of media for a diversity of audiences. It also requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Applicant must have the ability to operate within a legal and regulatory framework.
